Overview

Breakouts can feel like they appear overnight — but Acnecide gets to work fast. This clinically proven gel targets the root cause of acne by reducing bacteria, clearing blocked pores, and calming inflammation. Used daily, it helps prevent new spots from forming while gently improving skin clarity.

Simple, effective, and dermatologist-trusted, Acnecide is a go-to treatment for mild to moderate acne. It’s a step towards clearer skin and renewed confidence.

This medicine requires a secure online consultation with a UK-registered prescriber, and will only be supplied if clinically appropriate.

What is Acnecide

Acnecide is a topical treatment that contains benzoyl peroxide, one of the most effective and well-established ingredients for managing acne. It tackles acne at its source by killing the bacteria that contribute to inflammation and breakouts. In addition to its antibacterial action, Acnecide also helps to unclog blocked pores by removing excess oil (sebum) and dead skin cells, two key contributors to spot formation. By addressing both the bacterial and structural causes of acne, it reduces redness, swelling, and the size of active blemishes. Acnecide is suitable for mild to moderate acne and is often used as a first-line treatment on its own or alongside other prescription medications for more stubborn or widespread acne.

Directions

  • Apply a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily, as directed by your prescriber.
  • Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat dry before applying.
  • Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and broken skin.
  • Use sunscreen during the day, as benzoyl peroxide can increase sensitivity to sunlight.

Improvement is usually seen within 4–6 weeks, but consistent use is key.

Side Effects

Most people tolerate Acnecide (benzoyl peroxide) well, but some may experience mild skin reactions — particularly when first starting treatment. These effects usually improve as the skin adjusts.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Dryness or flaking of the skin
  • Redness or mild irritation at the application site
  • Peeling or scaling
  • Mild burning or itching sensation

Less common (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

  • Persistent skin irritation that does not improve with continued use
  • Temporary bleaching of hair, clothing, or fabrics if the gel comes into contact with them

Most side effects are temporary and settle with regular use. If irritation is severe or persistent, reduce the frequency of application or speak to your prescriber.

Disclaimer: This is not a complete list of side effects. Always read the patient information leaflet provided with your medicine for full details. If you experience anything unusual or concerning, stop using the treatment and seek medical advice promptly. In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.

Warnings

Acnecide may not be suitable if you:

  • Have very sensitive or eczema-prone skin
  • Are using other strong acne products (unless advised by a prescriber)

Avoid contact with clothes, towels, and bedding, as the gel can bleach fabrics.
