Overview

Canesten Duo is a complete thrush treatment that tackles infection from the inside and soothes irritation on the outside.
It combines a single-dose fluconazole capsule with clotrimazole 2% cream, giving fast and comprehensive relief from all vaginal thrush symptoms.

What is Canesten Duo

Thrush often causes both internal symptoms (such as discharge, soreness, and swelling) and external irritation (itching, burning, redness). Treating one without the other can leave discomfort lingering - which is why Canesten Duo offers two treatments in one pack.

The fluconazole capsule works from the inside, stopping the Candida yeast from growing and clearing the infection at its source.
The clotrimazole cream works on the outside, easing itching, burning, and soreness around the vagina.
This dual approach means you don’t just feel better faster - you also reduce the chance of symptoms persisting or coming back.

Directions

  • Take one fluconazole 150mg capsule with water.
  • Apply a thin layer of Canesten 2% cream 2–3 times daily to the external area until symptoms settle.
  • Use both treatments together for best results.

Side Effects

Most women tolerate Canesten Duo well, but side effects may occur.

Fluconazole (capsule):

  • Common: headache, nausea, diarrhoea, stomach upset
  • Rare but serious: allergic reaction, liver problems, irregular heartbeat

Clotrimazole (cream):

  • Common: mild burning, stinging, or redness after application
  • Rare but serious: severe allergic reaction (swelling, rash, breathing difficulty)

Disclaimer: This is not a complete list of side effects. Always read the patient information leaflet that comes with your medicine for full details. If you notice anything unusual or concerning, stop using the treatment and seek medical advice promptly. In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.
