Overview

If bacterial vaginosis keeps recurring or causing distress, Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream offers a direct and effective prescription treatment. Containing clindamycin, a proven antibiotic, this cream targets the bacteria responsible for BV — relieving odour, discharge, and discomfort while restoring natural balance.

Applied once daily at bedtime, Dalacin works locally inside the vagina, providing strong results with a gentle approach. For many women, it’s the treatment that helps restore long-term comfort and confidence.

This medicine requires a secure online consultation with a UK-registered prescriber, and will only be supplied if clinically appropriate.

What is Dalacin Vaginal Cream

Dalacin Vaginal Cream is a prescription treatment for bacterial vaginosis (BV) that contains clindamycin phosphate 2%, an antibiotic that works directly in the vagina to eliminate the bacteria responsible for infection. By targeting these bacteria, Dalacin helps to relieve key BV symptoms such as unusual discharge and unpleasant odour. Because it acts locally, it reduces the risk of systemic side effects that can occur with oral antibiotics. Dalacin is often recommended for women with persistent or moderate-to-severe BV, or as an alternative when metronidazole-based treatments are not suitable.

Directions

  • Apply one full applicator (5g of cream) into the vagina once daily at bedtime for 7 days, unless otherwise prescribed.
  • Always wash hands before and after application.
  • Complete the course, even if symptoms improve early.
  • Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment to allow best results.

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Dalacin Vaginal Cream can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Vaginal irritation, itching, or mild burning
  • Increased discharge during treatment

Less common (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

  • Abdominal pain
  • Headache
  • Diarrhoea

Most people tolerate Dalacin Vaginal Cream well, and side effects (if they do occur) are usually mild. If you are concerned about any symptoms, or they do not improve, speak to your doctor, pharmacist, or prescriber.

Disclaimer: This is not a complete list of side effects. Always read the patient information leaflet provided with your medicine for full details. If you experience severe or worrying symptoms, seek medical advice straight away. In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.

Warnings

Do not use Dalacin Vaginal Cream if you:

  • Are allergic to clindamycin, lincomycin, or any ingredients in the cream
  • Have a history of inflammatory bowel disease (e.g., colitis)
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless prescribed by your doctor

Dalacin treats BV but does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). If symptoms are severe, unusual, or frequently recurring, further investigation may be required.

FAQ's

How quickly does Dalacin Cream work?
Most women notice improvement within 2–3 days, but complete the full 7-day course for effective treatment.

Is Dalacin better than Zidoval Gel?
Both are effective. Zidoval contains metronidazole, while Dalacin contains clindamycin. The choice depends on your medical history and prescriber’s recommendation.

Can Dalacin Cream be used during pregnancy?
It may be prescribed in some cases, but always under medical supervision.

Can BV come back after using Dalacin?
Yes, BV can return. Preventative steps, such as pH-balancing products and avoiding irritants, may help reduce recurrence.

Does Dalacin interfere with condoms?
Yes — the cream may weaken latex condoms and diaphragms. Use alternative protection during treatment and for at least 3 days after finishing.
