Overview

When hayfever symptoms are at their worst, a single treatment isn’t always enough. Dymista combines the power of an antihistamine and a corticosteroid in one nasal spray — providing rapid, targeted relief from sneezing, congestion, itchy nose, and runny nose. Fast-acting and long-lasting, it helps control even the toughest allergy symptoms so you can breathe freely and feel like yourself again.

This medicine requires a secure online consultation with a UK-registered prescriber, and will only be supplied if clinically appropriate.

What is Dymista

Dymista is a prescription-only nasal spray that combines two proven allergy treatments in one: azelastine hydrochloride, an antihistamine, and fluticasone propionate, a corticosteroid. This unique dual-action formula tackles symptoms in two ways — azelastine blocks histamine to reduce sneezing, itching, and a runny nose, while fluticasone eases inflammation and swelling in the nasal passages to relieve congestion.

It is commonly prescribed for severe hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) as well as year-round nasal allergies (perennial rhinitis).

With relief beginning within minutes of use, Dymista offers powerful 24-hour control of nasal allergy symptoms, including sneezing, congestion, and runny nose. It may also help to reduce itchy, watery eyes often linked to hay fever, providing complete and convenient allergy management in a single spray.

Directions

  • Adults (18+): One spray into each nostril twice daily (morning and evening)
  • Shake bottle before use
  • Use regularly for best results — especially during pollen season
  • Relief may be noticeable within 15–30 minutes, with full benefit in a few days

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Dymista can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Most are mild, short-lived, and improve as your body adjusts to treatment.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Bitter taste in the mouth – this can occur after use. Tilting your head forward slightly when spraying may help reduce this.
  • Nosebleeds – generally mild and short-lasting.
  • Nasal irritation or discomfort – some people may notice stinging, burning, or dryness inside the nose, which usually settles with continued use.

Less common (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

  • Headache – typically mild and temporary.
  • Dry nose or throat – dryness or soreness may occur but usually improves over time.
  • Sneezing after use – a brief reaction that normally passes quickly.

Rare but serious (seek urgent medical advice):

  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) – symptoms include swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or a sudden rash. This is extremely rare but requires immediate medical attention.
  • Eye pain or vision changes – may be a sign of increased eye pressure and should be assessed promptly.

Most people tolerate Dymista well, and side effects (if they do occur) are usually mild. If you are worried about any symptoms, or if they do not improve, speak to your doctor, pharmacist, or prescriber.

Disclaimer: This is not a complete list of side effects. Always read the patient information leaflet provided with your medicine for full details. If you experience severe or worrying symptoms, seek medical advice straight away. In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.

Warnings

Dymista may not be suitable if you:

  • Are allergic to azelastine, fluticasone, or any ingredients in the spray
  • Have frequent nosebleeds or recent nasal surgery
  • Have untreated infections in the nose or sinuses
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding (seek advice first)

Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience drowsiness after use.
