Overview

Enstilar Foam is an advanced psoriasis treatment that combines calcipotriol and betamethasone in a lightweight foam for easier application and faster absorption. Designed for plaque psoriasis, it helps reduce scaling, redness, and itching while flattening plaques — all in a formulation that feels more comfortable and convenient to use than traditional ointments.

This medicine requires a secure online consultation with a UK-registered prescriber, and will only be supplied if clinically appropriate.

What is Enstilar Foam

Living with psoriasis can be frustrating, especially when creams and ointments feel greasy or difficult to use daily. Enstilar Foam offers the same proven dual-action formula as Dovobet but in a modern aerosol foam that spreads easily, absorbs quickly, and leaves no heavy residue.

How Enstilar works:

  • Calcipotriol (Vitamin D analogue): Slows the overproduction of skin cells to reduce plaque thickness.
  • Betamethasone (corticosteroid): Calms inflammation, itching, and redness.
  • Foam delivery: Lightweight, easy-to-use format encourages consistent use for better results.

It is typically prescribed for mild to moderate plaque psoriasis and is particularly valued for improving patient comfort and treatment adherence.

Directions

  • Apply once daily to affected plaques, using a thin layer of foam.
  • Shake the can well before use.
  • Spray onto the palm and apply with fingertips (do not spray directly onto skin).
  • Do not exceed 15g per day or 100g per week.
  • Avoid use on the face, genitals, or broken skin.
  • Wash hands after use.
  • Treatment courses typically last up to 4 weeks, after which use is reviewed.

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Enstilar can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Mild itching, redness, or burning at the site of application
  • Dry skin

Less common (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

  • Folliculitis (small red bumps around hair follicles)
  • Skin thinning or stretch marks (more likely with prolonged use)

Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):

  • Worsening of psoriasis (if overused)

Most people tolerate Enstilar well, and side effects (if they do occur) are usually mild. If you are concerned about any symptoms, or they do not improve, speak to your doctor, pharmacist, or prescriber.

Disclaimer: This is not a complete list of side effects. Always read the patient information leaflet provided with your medicine for full details. If you experience severe or worrying symptoms, seek medical advice straight away. In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.

Warnings

  • Do not use if allergic to calcipotriol, betamethasone, or any ingredient.
  • Not suitable for extensive psoriasis or other types such as guttate or pustular.
  • Avoid use during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless prescribed.
  • Do not exceed recommended doses to avoid side effects such as calcium imbalance or steroid-related issues.
  • Avoid prolonged sun or tanning bed exposure.
