Overview

If persistent facial redness from rosacea is leaving you feeling frustrated and self-conscious, Mirvaso offers targeted relief. This once-daily gel contains brimonidine 0.33%, which works by gently narrowing blood vessels in the skin to visibly reduce redness within hours — helping you face the day with greater confidence.

Unlike treatments that focus on bumps and inflammation, Mirvaso is designed specifically to tackle facial flushing and redness, providing fast and noticeable results that can last up to 12 hours.

This medicine requires a secure online consultation with a UK-registered prescriber, and will only be supplied if clinically appropriate.

What is Mirvaso

Mirvaso is a topical gel used to treat facial redness caused by rosacea

Its active ingredient, brimonidine tartrate 0.33%, works by narrowing the blood vessels just beneath the skin, reducing visible redness and flushing. This makes it particularly helpful for patients whose main symptom is persistent facial redness, even when other rosacea symptoms (like bumps or pustules) are under control.

Mirvaso typically begins working within 30 to 60 minutes, with results that may last up to 12 hours per application. It's not used to treat inflammatory spots or acne-like lesions - instead, it’s often prescribed as an add-on when redness remains the primary concern.

Directions

  • Apply a pea-sized amount of Mirvaso gel to each affected area (cheeks, nose, chin, forehead) once daily.
  • Wash hands before and after application.
  • Avoid eyes, lips, and inside of the nose or mouth.
  • Do not exceed the recommended dose, as overuse may worsen redness.

Side Effects

Mirvaso is generally well tolerated and effects usually improve with continued use or dose adjustment, but some users may experience:

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
Temporary redness, burning, or irritation at the application site
Flushing or warmth in the treated area

Less common (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
Dry skin or mild itching
Headache

Rare but serious (seek medical advice promptly):
Worsening of rosacea symptoms (more redness or flare-ups)
Severe allergic reaction (swelling, rash, difficulty breathing)

Disclaimer: This is not a complete list of side effects. Always read the patient information leaflet that comes with your medicine for full details. If you notice anything unusual or concerning, stop using the gel and seek medical advice promptly. In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.

Warnings

Do not use Mirvaso if you:

  • Are allergic to brimonidine or any ingredient in the gel
  • Have very sensitive skin prone to severe irritation

Other cautions:

  • Use sparingly and exactly as directed — more is not better
  • Discuss with your prescriber if you have cardiovascular problems, depression, or are taking blood pressure medication
  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by your doctor
