Overview

What is Rizatriptan?

Rizatriptan is a triptan medication prescribed to relieve migraine headaches by acting on serotonin receptors in the brain to reduce swelling of blood vessels. At SwiftMedi, we stock generic Rizatriptan 10mg tablets, an effective and affordable alternative to the branded Maxalt 10mg tablets. Both provide clinically equivalent migraine relief. SwiftMedi services are available only for adults aged 18 years and over.

What is a Migraine?

Migraines affect many people in the UK, with symptoms including severe throbbing headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light, sound, and smells. Around 25% of women and 8% of men experience migraines. Some people notice a warning sign called an aura before the headache begins.

How Does Rizatriptan Work?

Rizatriptan is a serotonin (5HT1) receptor agonist that narrows blood vessels in the brain, relieving migraine pain. It is most effective when taken at the onset of migraine symptoms but does not prevent migraines from occurring.

How to Take Rizatriptan

  • Take one 10mg tablet orally with water as soon as migraine symptoms begin.
  • If symptoms persist, a second dose may be taken after at least two hours.
  • Do not exceed two tablets within 24 hours.

Consult your clinician if you have kidney or liver problems or are taking propranolol.
