Overview

If rosacea flare-ups are leaving your skin irritated, red, and covered in stubborn bumps, Soolantra offers a fresh approach. This once-daily cream contains ivermectin 1%, a treatment that not only calms inflammation but also targets microscopic skin mites thought to play a role in rosacea — helping break the cycle of flare-ups at the source.

Gentle yet powerful, Soolantra is designed for everyday use and is proven to reduce papules and pustules, restore skin comfort, and give patients the confidence of clearer, calmer skin.

This medicine requires a secure online consultation with a UK-registered prescriber, and will only be supplied if clinically appropriate.

What is Soolantra

Soolantra is a once-daily topical treatment for rosacea that contains ivermectin 1%
It offers a dual approach to managing rosacea by combining:

  • Anti-inflammatory effects – helping reduce redness, swelling, and irritation
  • Anti-parasitic action – targeting Demodex mites, which may contribute to rosacea flare-ups

Soolantra is particularly effective for moderate to severe rosacea with inflammatory lesions (bumps and pustules). Visible improvement is often seen within 2–4 weeks, with further benefits over continued use.

Directions

  • Apply a thin layer of Soolantra cream once daily to the affected areas of the face.
  • Use on clean, dry skin.
  • Avoid eyes, lips, and inside the nose.
  • Wash hands before and after application.
  • Consistency is key — continued daily use helps maintain results.

Side Effects

Most people tolerate Soolantra well, but like all medicines, it can cause side effects in some individuals.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Mild skin dryness
  • Burning, stinging, or itching at the application site
  • Temporary irritation during the first few days of use

Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

  • Redness or worsening of rosacea
  • Skin sensitivity
  • Eye irritation (if applied too close to the eyes)

Disclaimer: This is not a complete list of side effects. Always read the patient information leaflet that comes with your medicine for full details. If you notice anything unusual or concerning, stop using the cream and seek medical advice promptly. In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.

Warnings

Do not use Soolantra if you:

  • Are allergic to ivermectin or any of the ingredients in the cream

Other cautions:

  • Only apply to the face — not suitable for body use
  • Safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not fully established, so consult your prescriber before use
  • Always use as directed; over-application will not improve results faster

FAQ's

How long does Soolantra take to work?
Most people start noticing improvements within 2–4 weeks, with continued improvement over several months.

Does Soolantra cure rosacea?
No. Rosacea cannot be cured, but Soolantra helps control symptoms by targeting both inflammation and Demodex mites.

Can I use Soolantra with other rosacea treatments?
Yes — it is sometimes prescribed alongside oral treatments like Efracea or topical products like Rozex. Your prescriber will advise.

What’s the difference between Soolantra and Metrogel or Rozex?
Metrogel and Rozex contain metronidazole, which reduces inflammation. Soolantra also calms inflammation but adds the unique benefit of targeting Demodex mites, which makes it especially effective for certain patients.

Can I wear makeup while using Soolantra?
Yes. Apply the cream first, allow it to absorb, then apply non-comedogenic makeup if desired.
