Overview

Constant sneezing, a blocked nose, or itchy nasal passages can turn hayfever into a daily struggle. Flixonase nasal spray targets allergy symptoms at their source, calming inflammation inside the nose to provide powerful, all-day relief. With regular use, it helps you breathe freely, stay comfortable, and enjoy life without allergies holding you back.

This medicine requires a secure online consultation with a UK-registered prescriber, and will only be supplied if clinically appropriate.

What is Flixonase

Flixonase contains fluticasone propionate, a corticosteroid nasal spray that reduces inflammation inside the nasal passages. While antihistamines work by blocking histamine after it is released, Flixonase tackles the root of the allergic response, helping to both prevent and relieve troublesome symptoms.

It is widely used for seasonal hay fever (allergic rhinitis) and year-round allergies triggered by dust mites, pets, or mould. By targeting inflammation directly, Flixonase provides powerful, long-lasting relief from nasal congestion, sneezing, and a runny nose, while also helping to ease itchy, watery eyes linked to hay fever.

For the best results, Flixonase should be used daily and consistently throughout allergy season or as prescribed. With a strong track record as a clinically proven corticosteroid treatment, it is a trusted choice for effective allergy control.

Directions

  • Adults (18+): Two sprays into each nostril once daily (maximum 4 sprays per nostril daily)
  • Once symptoms are controlled, dose may be reduced to one spray per nostril daily
  • Shake bottle before use
  • Use regularly — may take 2–3 days for full effect
  • Continue throughout allergy season or as directed by your prescriber

Always follow the directions given by your prescriber or pharmacist.

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Flixonase (fluticasone propionate nasal spray) can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Most are mild, short-lived, and improve as your body adjusts to treatment.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Nosebleeds – usually mild and temporary, more likely with long-term use.
  • Dryness or irritation in the nose or throat – a stinging, burning, or uncomfortable feeling may occur after spraying but often settles with continued use.
  • Headache – typically mild and short-lasting, eased with rest or simple pain relief if needed.

Less common (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

  • Altered sense of smell or taste – some people notice changes, which usually improve with time.
  • Sore throat – irritation or discomfort in the throat may develop but is generally mild.

Rare but serious (seek urgent medical advice):

  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) – symptoms include swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or a sudden rash. This is extremely rare but requires immediate medical attention.
  • Eye pain or blurred vision – may be a sign of raised pressure in the eye; seek medical assessment promptly if this occurs.

Most people tolerate Flixonase well, and side effects (if they do occur) are generally mild and temporary. If you are concerned about any symptoms, or they do not improve, speak to your doctor, pharmacist, or prescriber.

Disclaimer: This is not a complete list of side effects. Always read the patient information leaflet that comes with your medicine for full details. If you experience severe or worrying symptoms, seek medical advice straight away. In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.

Warnings

Flixonase may not be suitable if you:
