Overview

What is Imigran Nasal Spray?

Imigran Nasal Spray is a prescription medication containing sumatriptan, a triptan class drug used to treat migraines. It is designed for quick absorption through the nasal passages, making it ideal for people who cannot swallow tablets or prefer an alternative. Imigran helps relieve migraine symptoms such as intense throbbing headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound. SwiftMedi services are available only for adults aged 18 years and over.

How Does Imigran Nasal Spray Work?

While the exact cause of migraines is not fully understood, the pain is linked to the dilation (widening) of blood vessels in the brain. Sumatriptan, a serotonin agonist, works by stimulating specific serotonin receptors, causing blood vessels to constrict and relieving migraine pain. Imigran Nasal Spray is most effective when used at the start of a migraine attack but can still provide relief if taken later. Nasal delivery allows the medication to begin working in about 30 minutes.

How to Take Imigran Nasal Spray

Imigran Nasal Spray comes as a single-use spray available in 10mg and 20mg strengths.

  • Spray the dose into one nostril at the onset of migraine symptoms.
  • Blow your nose gently before use if it feels blocked.
  • Insert the nozzle approximately 1cm into one nostril, block the other nostril
  • Dispose of the used spray after use.
  • If ineffective, wait at least two hours before taking a second dose.
  • Do not exceed 40mg in 24 hours.
  • Use only one spray per dose; the spray is supplied in individual blister packs to ensure hygiene and effectiveness.
