Overview
Hayfever and allergies can leave you blocked, tired, and frustrated — but you don’t need to suffer in silence. Mometasone nasal spray is a trusted, non-drowsy steroid treatment that targets inflammation at its source, easing congestion, sneezing, and irritation for clear, all-day relief. As the reliable generic version of Nasonex, it offers the same proven protection, helping you breathe freely and feel like yourself again.
This medicine requires a secure online consultation with a UK-registered prescriber, and will only be supplied if clinically appropriate.
What is Mometasone
Mometasone furoate nasal spray is a corticosteroid treatment used to relieve symptoms of hay fever (allergic rhinitis) and year-round allergies (perennial rhinitis). By reducing swelling and inflammation inside the nasal passages, it works directly at the source of symptoms to ease congestion, runny nose, itching, and sneezing.
A single once-daily dose provides 24-hour relief, making it convenient and easy to use. Because it is a non-drowsy formula, it’s suitable for everyday use without affecting alertness or concentration.
Clinically proven to be as effective as Nasonex, mometasone furoate offers trusted, long-lasting relief to help you stay comfortable throughout allergy season and beyond.
Directions
- Standard adult dose: Two sprays in each nostril once daily
- Your prescriber may reduce to one spray per nostril once daily once symptoms are controlled
- Shake the bottle gently before each use
- Prime the spray before first use, or if unused for several days
Always follow the instructions provided by your prescriber.
Side Effects
Like all medicines, mometasone furoate nasal spray can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Most are mild, short-lived, and improve as your body adjusts to treatment.
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
- Nosebleeds – usually mild and temporary, more likely with prolonged use.
- Headache – typically mild and short-lived, relieved with rest or simple pain relief if needed.
- Irritation, dryness, or soreness in the nose or throat – some people may notice a stinging, burning, or uncomfortable feeling, which often settles with regular use.
Less common (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
- Altered sense of taste or smell – some people may notice temporary changes, which usually improve with time.
- Throat irritation – mild discomfort or soreness may occur but often improves with continued use.
- Sneezing after application – this is usually mild and short-lived.
Rare but serious (seek urgent medical advice):
- Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) – symptoms may include swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or a sudden rash. This is very rare but requires immediate medical help.
- Eye pain or changes in vision – may indicate raised pressure in the eye; seek prompt medical assessment if this occurs.
Most people tolerate mometasone nasal spray well, and side effects (if they do occur) are generally mild. If you are concerned about any symptoms, or they do not improve, speak to your doctor, pharmacist, or prescriber.
Disclaimer: This is not a complete list of side effects. Always read the patient information leaflet provided with your medicine for full details. If you experience severe or worrying symptoms, seek medical advice straight away. In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.
