Overview

Canesten Solution 1% Clotrimazole is a non-greasy antifungal liquid used to treat fungal infections of the outer ear. It contains clotrimazole 1%, an antifungal medicine that works by stopping the growth of fungi and yeasts responsible for the infection.

 

Directions

  • For outer ear infections, instil 2 to 3 drops of clotrimazole solution into your ear 2–3 times a day continue for at least 14 days after disappearance of infection.
  • You can use it for up to 4 weeks.

Side Effects

Most people tolerate Canesten Solution 1% quite well

Possible Side effects can occur around the area where the solution has been applied and may include:

  • Itching
  • Burning or stinging
  • Skin irritation or discomfort
  • Redness
  • Rash
  • Blistering
  • Swelling
  • Peeling or flaking of the skin

Warnings

  • Do not use Canesten Solution 1% if you are allergic to clotrimazole or macrogol 400
  • Do not use Canesten Solution together with Sofradex ear drops unless advised by a doctor, as using these treatments at the same time may cause a heat reaction in the ear.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.

 

 

Stop using Canesten Solution and seek urgent medical attention if you develop an Allergic reaction,  symptoms include swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe dizziness, fainting or a widespread allergic reaction.
